Getting a blog out there?

How would you go about getting a blog out there, making it popular and getting lots of people to read and comment? such as postsecret.blogspot.com?

If you have a blog on blogspot.com I'm guessing you have very little control over your ability to make your blog SEO friendly.  If I were you I would buy your own domain ex: postsecret.com and install WordPress.org as your blogging software.  Then download and install the WordPress plugin called All-in-one SEO and use it to add keywords and descriptions to your posts and pages.  Using the correct keywords and descriptions are crucial to your ability to be found on Search Engines.  Then create accounts at google and yahoo...etc. And make sure they know your site exists.  Then submit your site to as many well-known online directories as you can to improve your page-rank.

i heard the best way, believe it or not, is by word of mouth. you'll be surprised how something spread amongst friends and family can get out there.

not sounding desperate really helps. Keeps the motivation there. You have to befriend people, they are your audience after all. Befriend nerdy people who will post a link to it from their blog. Be sure to return the favor.
