Ok I'm still 17 turning 18 in less then 3 months and I think i'm very responsible and I want to get ready for the future but I don't know if there's any sooner way to get a credit card. I'm already out of high school and in college if that helps. I have a job and I have a checking and savings account at wamu. I've never had an overdraft for as long as I had the account. Does anyone know if I have a chance at getting a credit card?

I mean is student credit cards only offered to people who are 18?

  1. I'm pretty sure you have to be 18.

  3. You need to be 18 because you can't sign a contract under 18 (well, you can, but it isn't binding). The key here is that you have paid attention to credit and money management and you have a respect for it. Don't ever let this stop! :)

As far as getting a card, you'll need to do a little research, but it's not difficult. Just learn some terms and understand what they mean (if you havent already). By the time you hit 18, you'll have a good idea as to what is right for you and then you can apply. If you are turned down for some cards at that point, don't take it personally, just apply for a pre-paid or secured credit card. The company that issues it doesnt have to worry about you paying it off (since you already pre-paid the account) and they get to watch you to see how you use it. Once they are comfortable, they'll give you one, no worries about that.

Take a look at http://applyforastudentcreditcard.com - they have some Q&A there and you can do some research. When you hit 18, you'll be ready to rock and roll..

    Best of luck!
