Getting a drivers license for the first time?

Hi, I am turning 18 in two days, I live in TN, i never have had a drivers license before. What will I need to do to get one. All of the info on the DMV site just gave me info for people under 18.

  1. No matter if you are 16 or 60, you have to take the same tests for your permit & later your license.  Only basic difference between 17 & 18 is more restrictions if you are in school &/or a minor.  Go to your local DMV, talk to the clerk, & get the drivers manual.  To apply for your permit, you will need a birth certificate & a social security card or some alternative documentation.  Study the manual for your permit test & take a driver's ed course.  If you are still in high school, your school should offer one or direct you to an accredited driving school & many states, like TN, do have restrictions for those still in school, like a certain time when you cannot be driving.  After fulfilling the requirements set forth by the state, you can take your driving test.   Good luck!!!
