Question:

Getting a knot out of a towstrap?

Many months ago my car slid off the icy road and into the ditch. A friend helped pull me out with his truck and my brand new $100. towstrap. The problem is this I-D-I-O-T tied a knot into the tow strap to loop it over his hitch. The knot is as hard as a rock and about the size of a golf ball. I have tried EVERTYTHING I know to remove the knot but am unsuccessful. I tried to boil it, I tried to freeze it and I tried to pull it open with a needle nosed pliers all to no avail. If I cut it, it will be useless because it will only be half it's length. Anyone have any ideas???

  1. Get a long punch chisel (looks like a big center punch) and try to hammer it into the knot, do not hammer through the material of the strap keep it between the knot like when you hold the knot when wrapping a christmas present.. Get it in there and try to work it apart. Don't wet it this makes it more difficult. If anything, use graphite or talcum powder as a lubricant. Be patient. I have been down this road before. Sometimes even with patience and persistence the knot will not untie. In that case you can order one much cheaper through several online catalogs. Here's one...

  2. Soak it in water and it will easier to remove.
