I am purchasing a new PC soon. I have had XP only on my past PC's. Don't know whether to have Windows Vista Home Premium or stick with XP? Is Vista Home Premium easy to use? Any thoughts./

  1. The disadvantages of vista are some reduced rights (a more restrictive license) and a little more power.

But i have Home basic installed on my laptop, and though i wanted to return to XP after the 'new' effect wore off, i kept it installed out of laziness.  (Reformatting is easy, but can be too time consuming.  I dont like having to wait a couple hours to reformat, chkdsk, and reinstall/patch and not be able to use my computer.)

Now however, a few months after installing it for the first time, i've decided i like vista better.  Even though home basic doesnt have all the shiny features, vista is a little nicer.  With home premium, it'd look even better.

Get vista, stick with it a couple months, you'll like it.

(You cant buy a computer with XP anymore, so i'm assuming you mean you have an XP disc that you would use to wipe vista, and reinstall XP on the hard drive)

Myth: Vista is full of problems and bugs

Response: Wrong.  Noobs who haven't downloaded a driver since XP was released 7 years ago and don't update their computers have problems with Vista.

Noobs.  Like the person below me.  Ignore them.

  2. I have heard good things about vista, but my friends say its harder to Hack than X P!    (vista)

  3. XP is better. Too many probloms with Windows Vista.

  4. It really depends on how much you want to spend on a PC. If you plan on buying a budget computer with a slower processor and memory, I would stick with xp. However if you have a little extra to spend and love the look of vista and the way it runs I would go with it. I run on vista ultimate and I love it a lot more than vista. It runs a lot smoother with all of the updates. I would recommend having at least 2gb of ddr2 ram and a dual core processor running above 2.6 ghz. I would research into what you are buying before making a decision on an operating system

  5. With Windows 7 tentatively set for 2010 launch (Windows 7 is the next OS to take over from Vista), I would recommend staying with XP Home.

Vista even with its Service Pack 1 updates is still not living up to its hype--there is still driver, hardware and other annoying issues that keep popping up.
