Getting a new credit card a year before it expire?

Hello, I am immigrating to America but I still would like to keep my bank account here.

I have a credit card which will be expiried in 1 years and few months. I want a new card so it will expire in 5 years.

Can I go to my bank and ask them to replace my card with a new one so I'll have a card that will be expiried in 5 years and not in 1 year?

  1. I'm not sure when cards are replaced if it's 1-11 months before expiration. There's nothing wrong with asking your bank if they could do this for you.

Even if the card expires in a year, they can still send it to your new American address. Otherwise just have a trusted friend or relative send it to you.
