Hello, I am immigrating to America but I still would like to keep my bank account here.

I have a credit card which will be expiried in 1 years and few months. I want a new card so it will expire in 5 years.

Can I go to my bank and ask them to replace my card with a new one so I'll have a card that will be expiried in 5 years and not in 1 year?

  1. If the bank issuing your credit card has offices here in the US then you should be able to continue using your card with no problems.  Just change your address.

Expiration date is entirely up to the card issuer.  I've never heard of them extending the expiration date in advance this way, but it's certainly worth asking.

You may wish to consider going "paperless" - doing all of your credit card payments and statements online.  That way, your physical residence doesn't matter so much.

And - there will be difficulties keeping a bank account in another country outside the US.  You'll have to figure out how to transfer funds back and forth, exchange rates, statements.  And you'll have to report interest on foreign investments on your US income taxes.  If you're immigrating to the US and plan to stay (Welcome to America!!) you will probably be better off transferring all of your assets to a bank that does business here in the US.
