Whats a good name for it? Its white with brown spots? Im thinking of the name Hammie.

If Im at school 8am-3pm will it be okay just fed morning and when i get home then before i go to bed?

How much will everything cost including the haster at Petland?

I am getting female one and only one hamster. They wont get lonely right, even if so, i can only get one:(?

  1. I think Hammie is cool. Its kind of common...I named mine cookie and i think yours sounds kind of like a cookie! lol.

All you need to do is keep fill its food bowl up in the morning. I t amy be empty when you get home but thats probably because she stores it somewhere. So once a dy is good. and if she has a lot of food building up...you will learn where she stores it. (especially when you clean the cage (wich you should do once a week))....only fill it up about half. Also in the winter she will store alot more because of thier instincts tell them to get alot of food and sleep alot!

I dont have a petland where i live but i got my stuff at Petsmart and they probably have about the same prices. I srobably spent about 200 dollare AT THE MOST! It probably wasnt even that much! Remember to get chewsticks, bedding (IF YOU ARE USING SOME KIND OF WOOD BEDDING USE ASPEN CHIPS ONLY! I got a hamster once and it died becasue of its bedding!), a hamster ball, and of course obviose things! ;P

And she probably wont get lonely AS LONG AS you play with her every day for AT LEAST ten minutes! :) Good luck and i hope this info is what you needed!

  2. The first answer posted was pretty complete.

When I had hamsters years ago, the main diet was dry hamster food, enough left out at all times, checked daily, and a fresh supply of water at all times. They liked fresh veggies to gnaw on.

If I remember correctly, adult hamsters tended to fight, so I kept them in separate cages. I planned on getting rich by breeding them and selling them to research laboratories. I figured that if you started with one pair & bred them, and all their offspring, as often as possible, by the end of one year, on average, you would have 500,000 hamsters. When my population reached thirteen, my mother put her foot down and said I had to sell or give all but one back to the pet shop. I decided to keep my favourite female (named Johnnie-jump-up), and I was forbidden to let her visit the male before he went...so much for my dreams of easy wealth...oh well...

The way of keeping a hamster from getting lonely is to take her out and handle & pet her every day. Actually, if you have one of those wheel thingies, she won't get bored, and after a while you may decide you can't stand the constant sound, & take the wheel out again. some of them keep it up all night. They tend to sleep in the day, and stay up all night, but I would just pick them up when I got home from school. The hamster woke up, and didn't seem to mind.

The other thing I learned was that if you didn't clean the cage regularly, they stank. That may be why my mother halted my ambitions of getting rich.

Well, hamsters can be a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy her.

  3. Whats a good name for it? Its white with brown spots?

Hammie is great. Its very common but I think it would go. or Elley, or Angie.

If Im at school 8am-3pm will it be okay just fed morning and when i get home then before i go to bed?

Yes of course. My best friend goes to school and she has a hamster. You  can do that and maybe hold it for a second in the morning because it CAN get lonely occaisonaly.

I am getting female one and only one hamster. They wont get lonely right?

It can. They aren't like rats where they can keep theirselves busy. They need attention. And they need you to hold it and play with it alot. Mine got angry and wanted to escape so it bit through a plastic cage it was in. Because I didn't play with it alot.

How much will everything cost including the haster at Petland?

    My hamster cost 10 dollars.

    My cage cost 50 dollars.

My food, water dish, treats, and litter cost 15 dollars.

That stuff lasted for 3 months.

    All together costing 75$$

The cage was so expensive because it was a special cage  that had a huge bottom and tubes out the sides connecting at the top.

I hope you have a great time being a hamster owner!!

    (:

  4. First of all, names should be from the heart and if Hammie was your first instinct, I say roll with it. :D Name her Hammie. It's an appropriate and very cute name.

As for the feeding, it depends on how much you feed her but I'm sure that would be just fine. She won't starve between then and the time you get home.

Cages are the most expensive part of owning a hamster. Depending on the size of the cage, the prices will vary, however the hamsters are usually quite cheap. Only about 3-4 dollars if they're drawf or 11 if they're teddy bear. Or those are the prices at this Petland near here.

And as for being alone, Hamsters are pretty solitary animals. They prefer to be alone in all actuallity but company does not hurt them. You should be just fine and good luck with your Hamster. :3 They are VERY cute.

  5. I like the name Hammie, it's cute! Yes, those feeding times are ok, just make sure your hamster has food all the time, even at night. Everything will cost at least $50 (hamster, cage, food, bedding, toys). Hamsters need constant entertainment, but that doesn't mean you have to be there all the time. Get a wheel. They LOVE exercise, but DO NOT take away the wheel, because it's possible for your hamster to get addicted to it and if you took it away then your hamster would get depressed and unfriendly (don't worry about this because usually they're very easily entertained). My suggestion is to just by lots of toys and every now and then feed your hamster fruit slices and veggies. Hamsters are fun! Hope I helped =)

  6. Hamsters need to have food and water in the cage all the time, 24/7

They do not have regular feeding schedules, they eat when they need to.
