I wanted to take the driving class here at my school to get my permit, but one of my classes collided with that class, so I can't take it anymore. What else can I do? I heard you can take the class online?

  1. You don't take drivers ed to get your permit.  You just have to read the driving manual and go take the test.  Drivers ed is for when you have your permit and you need to learn how to drive so you can get your license.

  2. If you are under 18, then in most states you need to take the written course to get the permit.  If it didn't fit into your schedule, then you can either wait till next semester and hopefully it will fit in then, or you can take it at a separate traffic school that isn't part of a high school.

  3. drivers ed isnt needed just to get the permit.  it is manditory after u get the permit if u want the license.  u cant take it online.  u have to go to the dmv to take the permit test.  once u get the permit, u generally have 6 months to take and pass the driving test to get the license, and that is where drivers ed comes into play.

  4. You have to find a motor vehicles place.. (depending on the state that you live in they might call it something else.. i.e. dmv, penndot, etc) And/or is you're under 18 some places require you to take a course even b4 the permit. The permit is the written test in which you study the manual that is given to you. You answer multiple choice questions. If you pass that then that's when you go for you road test (to get the license) Good luck.

  5. You can get your learners permit on your own without the class.  Have your parent(s) run you to the driver's license examiners or office that handles registration & licenses for your state.  Get the learner's permit manual, study, then take the test for your permit when you are ready.  Most states validate your permit for 6mo.  Unless your state requires it, you aren't limited to driver's ed at your school.  There are private driver's ed schools that serve the same purpose, except you have to pay the tuition & fees.

Depending on your state's requirements, you may be able to take the bookwork portion of your driver's ed course online through a state accredited school, but don't get your hopes up.  You are a lot better off doing it the old fashioned way & showing up for a class.  Your guidance counselor may have suggestions or approved schools in the area.  Many states have computers at the driver's license examiners office for testing purposes only & if those computers are full, they have other ways to test, such as filling in the bubbles. Good luck!!
