Question:

Getting a pet rabbit.....?

I had rabbits when I was little and loved them. They used a litter box, and most were friendly. One let me carry it around like a baby on it's back. I was wondering if males or females tend to make better pets. Does one seem to be nicer or more docile? Any suggestions on breeds? I also have a couple of small dogs....problems? Any input would be helpful. Thank you!

  1. hi, your rabbit actually let you carry it on its back?

mine wouldn't, she just grunted at me and tried to kick me with her back feet, but sometimes she let me rub her nose or head.

but anyways, I think you should just get one boy or one girl or 2 boys and 2 girls. Because aparently bunnies can have a lot of babies. Your little dogs will probably try to bark at the rabbits all the time which will stress and scare the rabbits. I think you should get one if you are responsible enough and have the money to care for it or them.

  2. I have a male and a female rabbit and i like them both! the only thing about the male is that he sprays A LOT! it's gross lol. mine are litter trained! and it depends on the dog, if they'll get along or not. you could separate them with a baby gate though! HAVE FUN

  3. I have a male lionhead, so i would recommend that.

I also had a small dog when i got him (s**+ poo - about 4-5 lbs) and she had no problems, just a little curious, but she never did everything to it.

Females have to be spayed if you're not planning on breeding it.

Males only have to be neutered if they have behavioural issues.

Just find a breed that you like. Look for things like size, hair etc.

  4. Most rabbits do not like to be held.

Check out the site www.rabbit.org for lots of rabbit info.

Adopt from a shelter if you decide they are the right pet for you, pet store rabbits are usually from cruel breeding mills.  A good breeder is okay too, but adoption is best.

They should be fixed to help reduce behavioral and health problems.

  5. Rabbits like having another rabbit around, they dont like being on their own. So the best idea is to get 2 rabbits. Males fight, and if you got a male and female, they would have babies, so getting 2 females from a young age, and putting them in the same hutch would be the best idea. Rex rabbits have really soft fur and are really cute and friendly. Small dogs shouldnt be a problem, as long as you keep the rabbits in a hutch/run.
