  1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ps3#Retail_...

That should give you a simple matrix of the features in each PS3 SKU.

The 60GB, with its backwards compatibility and extra features, has been discontinued, and will most likely never be produced again.  The 80GB is simply a hard drive space upgrade from the 40GB.   However, it's not backwards compatible with PS2 games (although I'm not sure if PS1 games are still supported).  Games can vary, but no one game will take up the entire hard drive.  If needed, you can simply delete the data on the hard drive.  The sole purpose of the games using your hard drive is so that it can load the game faster (and VERY fast).

  2. the 80gb is the same as the 40 gb. The 60 gb can play ps1/2 games. And you can use an eye toy on all of them. A game is around a gb if youre downloading it, and a picture is the same as it would on a pc. a few mb. 50 gb is more than enough for me, get that version if you can find one.

  3. 80 gb got discontinued because the thing were you can play ps2 games was to expensive, so they came out with another 80gb only that the ps3 no longer plays ps2 games, so i bought myself a 40gb ps3 and for 100.00 dollars i bought an external memory and bought it at best buy! best way to go! make sure you grab a copy of soccom confrontation and play online! that one of the best games for ps3

  4. you can't play PS2 Games on the 40Gb PS3. so get the 80gb . they are better. i have the 60Gb and it is really good , but its not available in stores any more, but i am sure the 80Gb is a lot better !

  5. I think you should get the 80GB because more memory the better...

I think the 80GB can also play PS2 games but I'm not sure, that you would have to ask the person selling it

The games don't really take up much space but if your a gamer you probably will have TONS of PS3 games so yeah buy the 80GB

Discontinued means that they don't make it anymore, so its limited, I think

  6. geta  real system like the 360 elite and be done with it!

  7. Ok.......The bigger is usually the better, reason being, ps3 games hold alot of baggage, when you play a game, your ps3 will usually find update software for it at around 250mb, if you want to play demos, hou have to install them (at roughly 800-1GB eachdemo).

Each game and the playstation store offers downloadable content from demos, movies to full games and expansion packs etc.  Thus using more memory.

Also if you want to set up a network with your pc or use flash drives to copy music and movies will also take up memory, the same amount as on your pc, copying music does not decrease the size when on ps3.

As for the other stuff, all ps3s play psone games (which can be downloaded aswell) yet the 40Gb does not play ps2.  As far as I know the 60gb and 80gb do, but the game site should tell you.  As for price, 80gb pretty much has everything you need and is practically the same price.

Also they all play normal dvds, as for eye toy, the ps3 does not have ps2 controller sockets, only usb, however hmv and probably game will have an adaptor to use ps2 controllers on ps3, eye toy should work with that.

Discontinued means that 60gb are no lobger in production so if they are selling them then they are the last ones of those you will ever find, usually as soon as something is discontinued they are taken off the shelf and can be sold as preowned.  But best not to get 60gb, 80 will have all the updated features.

Backwards Compatability basically means its capability of playing previous console games being PSone and PS2!

    Hope this heps!

  8. Your fine buying what you want man.

You CAN play ps2 games on ps3 but not the other way round.

  9. the 40gb is discontinued so will the 60gb at the end of the year they have 2 difference ps3 80gb right now   :)ava06

ps3 80gb $399.99 and is not backwards compatible

    ps3 80gb $499.99 w/dualshock controller and is backwards compatible

but in november 16 2008 they will have a bran new ps3 coming out

    ps3 160gb $499.99 w/ dualshock controller and backwards compatible

i think you 2 need to get your c**p together before you start to answer any ones question here cause both of you do not no what you are talking about and have no clue

jdmase>>>the 80gb and the 40gb are never ever the same ever

alfred<-the 80gb never ever got discontinued ever

  10. YES!!!!!!!!

    YEAH YOUR GETTIN A PS3!

  11. ok well one all 80gb and 40gb is just memory thats all and as far as games they only use up Mega bites (MB) which is not much to a Giga bite like you want to Down load movies and music then go for the 80gb but if you just want it for gaming then just go for minimim memory. even the 40gb is alot your fine you dont have to spend alot on the ps3 to to get what you want ... and the discountinued is the first edition ps3 to come out that plays ps2 games with out a Update the ps2 format.....

  12. the 40 gb will not play other ps titles, the 80gb will but only about 85% i believe.  If your gonna be downloading a lot of demos, videos then go for the biggest you can as the HD stuff is quite big.  You can always upgrade your drive, its dead easy to do and you can go as big as the biggest drive you can find.  The ps3 takes any 2.5" SATA drive.  There are other differences between the 40gb and 80gb versions, the game website is quite good.

  13. a 40gb can not play ps2 games. and some usb's cant be read like a phone.

they can do the same things other than that. wait untill the 80gb comes out in December it does all the things a 60gb can do but has bigger gb. i made that mistake and now regretting it. wishing i waited and got a 80gb.

it all depends on the size of the individual game/video or photo.

  14. 60Gb can play all of ps and ps2 game, while the 80gb can play most, but not smooth, but to be hornest if you had a HDTV, it will look c**p if you play any ps2 or ps regardless what system you had ps2 or ps3.  Because of major resolution difference.

I won't recommaned you geting a used 60gb, cause 60gb has highest faiure rate for ps3, and also has heat issue and loud noise especially after play for a hour or watching blu-ray.
