Question:

Getting a puppy, and have two bunnies?

I already asked about tips for getting a new puppy (and got loads of fantastic answers), but this question is a bit more defined.

I have two house bunnies who dont get on with each other, so get to run around at alternating times, generally when one goes into her hutch ill let the other out, and so on.

Anyway, the new puppy will be arriving on wednesday. With regards to socialising him with the bunnies, does anyone have any tips?

I know the pup is going to take up a lot of time but i wondered if it was safe to have him socialising with the bunnies immediatley, are there any health issues, or special things i have to do to help him get on with them? I dont want my dog chasing them around and stressing them, likewise i dont want the bunnies to be scared of the pup.

He is a boxer pup, so he is about the same size as them already.

One of the bunnies is quite territorial and the other very good natured and got on great with my other dogs.

  1. i think you should get a puppy and bunnie two a puppy and a bunnie

  2. Any delay in introduction may create a problem. The sooner the puppy sees that the rabbits are part of the deal, the better. They will get on. The dog will even defend the rabbits later on. I knew of a male corgi which 'mothered' a number of kittens produced by the house cat. They curled up together regularly. Animals are brighter than we realise.

  3. just keep introducing them for a while and eventily will get use to each other i have 4 dogs and a rabbit and guinipig and this is what i had to do

  4. itll b fine were getting a pup and weve got 2 guineas and 2 rats just put the rabbits in their cages and let the puppy sniff around then take thm out and let the pup sniff them theyll b fine if their bought up 2gether

  5. Wow, if I were you I'd introduce them asap but I'm amazed that bunnies and dogs could live together

  6. I think you should ask the vet cos they have to have injections to protect them from diseases. (the puppy)

But when it comes to socialising with the I would introduce them as soon as possible - but keep a close eye on them

  7. Socializing should start ASAP but I really don't advise you having a dog and two bunnies.  Actually, I don't think anyone should have a bunny for a pet. :)

  8. What flavor are your bunnies - as I expect they will soon be lunch.  It may not even be intentional however if they run they are prey if they are prey they will be pounced on if they are pounced on - they will likely die - maybe not at first but certainly eventually as the dog gets bigger.
