Question:

Getting a "title" for a sailboat?

My dad is getting a sailboat. A small, capri omega.

He said something about, the boat needs to be titled before we can drive it through the state we live in.

The boat currently lives in Corvallis oregon. We have to go get it. We live in Vancouver WA.

I was wondering, how much is it going to cost?

thanks

  1. When you buy a boat, the previous owner signs a bill of sale and transfers the (title) / ownership to you.  Once it's bought and signed over, you own the "title".

Besides this, he might mean the registration - boats must be registered with the DMV to be operated.

  2. As long as you have a signed title and a bill of sale on the title it states you have 30 days before you have to have the title transfered. No one will bother you on I-5. Get the boat and title and bring it home. If you don't believe me call the local DMV or police office, my buddy is a state trooper on Whidbey Island.
