Getting a second male kitten before neutering ?

I currently have a 5 1/2 month old male crossbreed kitten called Mogsy who is the best pet ever, he is affectionate and loving, well behaved and fun.

His parents have had another litter and we have agreed to take on another male kitten who will be coming to our house next week at 7wks old.

I am just wondering how they will get on?

Mogsy is not yet neutered but we are having him fixed in about 2 weeks, so for the first two weeks of being together Mogsy will be a whole male, but i have yet to see signs of sexul maturity!

Will him not being neutered effect his early relationship with the new kitten?

I do want him neutered but didn't want to have him done this wkend and then associate that with getting the new kitten.

Also we were thinking of calling the new cat Otis do you think this goes with Mogsy?

  1. I don't think you have anything to worry about in regards to the neutering.  It is good that you are getting another cats though, as most cats like to have a cat friend.  And you are wise to add another cat while Mogsy is still young.

My children who are the pet namers around here think that Milo would be better with Mogsy.

    Hope this helps!

  2. Your timing is actually quite good.  The one thing you don't want is to introduce another male while your current male is on the prowl for a female, because it will cause a power struggle.

But if you are getting him neutered shortly, you will most likely not have a problem.  Just remember the get the other guy fixed eventually too :)

Otis is a cute name...I also like Milo, as the other poster suggested.  I've only owned female cats, so I'm really only good with female names!

    What about George?  (j/k)
