I'm getting a honda cbr600rr for my 17th birthday and was just wondering if 17 is a good age to start learning how to ride.

If i rode a lot and got good do you think I could become a street bike racer in my 20s?

  1. 17 is an ok age but i learned when i was really young and you shouldnt street race its to much trouble

  2. Sorry, but you must have clicked the wrong section, as this is the motorcycle RACING questions.

The best advice I can give you is you to post this question again.

You would get a better response in....

    "Cars & Transportation"> "Motorcycles"

  3. Any age can learn how to ride a bike as long as the bike is appropriate for you. To experience motocycle in a long run, it is best to get a Honda Rebel or similar as a training bike. Why? You get to experience and learn easily without being intimidated by a bigger bike.  Forget about showing off to friends or status or nice bike. Once you know the physics, hands control, reflexes, road situation, handling the brakes, and getting comfortable with it , you can upgrade gradually.

From the past experience as both strreet rider and occasional /track rider, those who start out with bigger bikes usually ended uphurting themself real bad and stop riding all together. Those who train with the appropriate bike usually will last as a hobby for a long time. Stiill,  any bike that come s in 2 wheel will eventually fall. I will promise you that! The difference is , thos who train with smaller bike and crash (much less or rarely)usually is minor and you eventually learn from it fast.

But if you crash with bigger bikes, yuo will usually get hurt more and it takes just one mistake. Thus that bad experience will deter you from riding again.

Take your time no hurry..u are still young and at your prime.I want you to enjoy yourself in the long haul and actually race. Not give up in the middle from bad experience.

Steet racer? Why not do what the pros do? Track racing or actually race on the track?  Its control and safe. No darn Cops to worry about or other cars bothering you. You will be awhole lot confident and a better rider on street. Heres the tip tho, if you start track, you will never like street ride again. Except posing around which you are entitle to :) .here's a website you can go to to find out.  www.nesba.com

anyways good luck on your motorcycling adventure..they are a blast!
