Suppose you are a non-EU national (and non US citizen) (e.g. from India etc.) and you are traveling to some country (e.g. USA) via some air port in Switzerland (e.g. Zurich). You have a halt of around 8-10 hours between two connecting flights in Zurich and you want to make a quick trip to Zurich lake. You have a valid visa for your destination country, can you visit the zurich lake? i.e can you get a visa after landing in Zurich?

  1. It just depends what is your citizenship, not from the country you are flying from.

For exemple, you live in US, with a "Green Card", but you citizen ship is from..India (as your exemple), you will need a visa, UNLESS there is a mutual agreement between Switzerland and the country you are citizen from.

  2. A 8 hours stop-over is enough time for a quick trip to lake Zurich. The trip would take app. 20 minutes by train.

In Switzerland you can not get a visa at the airport. You would have to apply for a visa in your homecountry (e.g.  India). I suggest you to contact the Swiss Consulate for further details:

Consulate general of Switzerland, Mumbay (Bombay)

    102, Maker Chambers's IV, 10th Floor 222,

    Jamna lal Bajaj Marg

    Nariman Point, Mumbai - 400 021

    Phone (General): +91-22-2288 4563-5 / 2283 1738

  3. You will know if you try...if you build it they will come...

  4. please enquire with the swiss embassy in your country for the correct information.

i think you have to get the visa in your country only because authorities are very afraid you will stay in switzerland instead of travelling on. specially for people who are not from the eu or usa there are quite many restrictions.

    india is beautiful!
