Getting around Costa Rica...?

I will be going to Costa Rica in May. I am flying into San Jose airport, but am staying in Playa Coco in Guanacaste. What is the easiest/cheapest way to get there?

If you don't have a lot of luggage you can take a bus from the airport into San Jose, then take a taxi or even walk to the bus station and take the bus to Coco. Buses are cheap and not bad, but there are numerous bus stations in San Jose, and if you don't know your way around (I assume you don't) or don't speak decent Spanish, you may struggle. Also, if you arrive at night, I would not advise wandering around San Jose (after 8 pm or so).

Your guidebook (if you don't have one, GET ONE) should tell you which bus station to go to for buses to Coco. The guidebook should also have a map, so you can see how far from Parque de la Merced the station is, and whether you will be able to walk it or not. My guess is that you would, but I wouldn't do it after 8 pm. Good luck.

Cheapest - bus. Easiest (most expensive) - taxi. Bus is really the only way to get there without paying a bunch of money unless you know someone in CR that can take you there.

You can take the bus, it is called Pulmitán. It is pretty cheap, but the journey is long. If you want a faster journey you can fly in to Liberia Airport via TACA or Nature Air, they have short flights from San José to Liberia Airport.

The Cheapest way would be taking  a bus from San Jose to Playa coco and it would take you about 5 hours more or less.

or you could take a flight from San Jose airport to Liberia ($65) airport and take a 20 minute shuttle bus from there
