Question:

Getting around Montauk, NY (Long Island)

The LIRR can get a person from Brooklyn to Montauk, but what are you supposed to do once you get there? Is it the type of place you can easily get around on foot? If not, why take the LIRR? Even the Hampton Jitney isn't as convenient at the subway, it can still drop you off far far away from your B&B. So is the only real was to travel to and around Montauk via car?

  2. There are buses in Suffolk County.  There are also plenty of cabs you can take.

Personally, I'd rather have a car--it's much more convenient.  Things are not as close as one thinks in that area and having a car allows you to be more mobile and get around more.

  3. Yes, MTA Long Island Railroad offers Uniticket pass to Suffolk County Transit, well as MTA Long Island Railroad offers great deal of package with package that include their LIRR Package Away bus.

However, S92 in Hampton Bays are not very good bus in Summer according to Straphangers Campaigin.

  4. In the summertime there are buses that run through Montauk via Suffolk County Transit. There are some cab companies in Montauk also.
