  1. Your late payments are symptoms of a bigger problem. Your problem is that you are spending "beyond your means". You need to 1) cut up any card 2) begin to pay cash for any and all purchases 3) Develop a realistic and workable budget 4) bring all accounts current  5) Get responsible for your financial future.

  2. Just try and make payments on time.. you should get your credit back to normal in 12 months or less. A few late payments really dont effect your credit score because card companies give you grace period dates.....

  3. The faster you fix it... the better.  If you can pay off ALL Debt this month, and you don't have any "negative points"  you'll be great in 12 months.  If you have late payments... then those little red boxes will be there for the long run, depending on how many red boxes you have on your report... figure the last one that shows up was a month ago... your looking at about 4-5 years before the report looks good (thinking that you will never be late on a payment again)

  4. It can be a slow process, but I would start right away. It could take several years depending on why it is bad and what resources you have.

There are a lot of web sites out there that give good advice - Here is one I have used.
