  1. do not get two they will not get along they will hurt each other i learn the hard way i know you would rather have two pets but its safer to have one

  2. If you are going to get two, you need to get them at the same time. If you get one at a time, the first one will be protective of its space. But if they go in at the same time they learn to share the space. Secondly, don't get a male and female. The male will always be pestering the female and you may, WILL end up with babies unless the male in fixed. Don't get two males. Once they reach maturity they will start to fight over space. They will get territorial and fight. Two females is the best way to go. They won't fight much (a little nip here and there) and they will be best friends. Also, you will want to get litter mates. They will get along much better.

I breed Holland Lops. If you live in NC or VA I might be able to help you. I also know quite a bit of breeders. You should buy from a breeder. They are much more knowledgable than pet stores and will be able to give you exactly what you want. Go to my website: www.bunnyyardgardens.com. I had 10 babies born. We handle them from day one so they are very sweet. Email me if you are interested. Its on the contact page.

  3. I socialise, give carrots, lettuce, parsley, cilantro to bunnies at my local shelter.  Do go to your local shelter first if they have bunnies.  All our bunnies are spayed or neutered prior to adoption and sometimes we have pairs who are surrendered together.

The de-sexing is very important for any companion animal and prevents a lot of future problems.

Two is a great idea, though there will be some addtional expenses in having two.  Bunnies are very social and loving if given proper attention.

People bring their bunnies to the shelter all the time to "match them up" with another bunny so you can wait and start with just one.

  4. If you are getting two bunnies it is much better if you can get them both at the same time.

If you are getting two- its better to get two females than two males- as the males will fight (this is more likely to happen after they reach sexual maturity at 6 months of age)

However, I have introduced many rabbits together without having any problems when they are a bit older. I have a desexed male and have had a few females come for a visit and after a few days letting the new rabbit settle down in a different cage, I introduce my boy and they usually get along fine fairly quickly.

A male female pair is fantastic if they are both desexed- which is advisable with rabbits anyway- apart from fixing serous behavioural problems that both male and female rabbits have once they reach breeding age, it also prevents them from getting some forms of cancer.

If you want to purchase a pair of rabbits that are already desexed and may already be bonded you can also contact your local animal shelter- many shelters now rescue and rehouse rabbits and guineapigs nowdays- and not only do you get the opportunity to save a life- but its less expensive to purchase them already desexed, vaccinated and microchipped than it is to buy a rabbit then pay for all of the vet work.

  5. you should adopt from a rescue or shelter
