what do i need to do to get certified? i want to do it through the military because i am near a base and the two children i watch are military and they (the military) will pay more than what i charge my parents. first off i'm not using this to make a quick buck, if i get the money for childcare from the military i can charge my parents less. and for anyone who is in the military and has children you know we don't have the greatest salary. thanks in advance!!!

  1. the military does not pay for day care,  it is the individual parent that pays for it,   so i am not sure what you are asking ,   the military has a day care center on the base  ( usually) and many of the military wives take care of children on the base, so they are the ultimate of convenient,  but please state what base you live near, and that might help,  but i have never,  never heard of the military paying for day care, it is the soldier/ sailor/ airman, or Marine that pay for their own day care,

    good luck

    ;)

  2. I was a military FCC Provider at Tyndall AFB. I had to get CPR cetified (they taught the class), first aid, and some training. I had to do training modules and purchase insurance. The insurance was manditory and it protected against abuse..it was $80 for 3 mos worth. I had to have a fire plan drawn up with 2 different routes out of the house. I had to have a fire inspection, and a safety inspection prior to opening and getting my license. Soon after I opened I loved it and was the extended duty care provider for the base, then I went for a developmental license. You can have 6 kids total and only 2 under the age of 2. A contract is also required, the FCC coordinator will look it over and approve it. hope this helps!

  3. libspray is correct, however it's only payable to Family Child Care providers who are in base housing and are active duty dependants.

Training for Home Day Care providers is provided on the base, providers then continue to attend monthly training sessions, and there home must be open at all times to inspection.  Regulations regarding FCC providers are very strict.  No other children aareallowed in the home, unless they are provider's children.  Then they are included in the child count.  No animals of any kind.  No smoking in the home.  Separation of food and detailed menus meeting USDA guidelines.   Etc.

As the reg states, it is NOT always a cash subsidy.  It is subsidy by provission of free training, FCC toy loan program, and support.

Edit:  The Naval program must be run differently, then.  For the AF program you must be on base or in Gov't Leased housing (overseas) and there is no money given to the providers for supplementing, except for those who do shift work.

  4. You can contact the Base Resources and Referrals Office, they could help you, or you could get Certified through the NACCRRA, which is a resource the Military uses for FCC providers.

EDIT: Guess who, actually this may help clarify...

"DoD provides funding to most military Child Development Centers and Family Child Care (FCC) in-home providers so they, in turn, will not have to charge as high a fee to the families to whom they provide child care services. Subsidies vary by branch and facility. FCC providers may receive subsidies in the form of direct cash, equipment loans, free training, or low-cost insurance.

Because of the subsidies, military child care is often more affordable than child care in the civilian community, often meeting or exceeding the local economy's standards and accreditations."

EDIT: Taking a stab at the Base, but this could be a start... 1-866-NAVYCDC ,   (757) 953-6873

and MWR at NNSY is also a source to start,  (757)396-3871/7947 or DSN 386-3871/7947

  5. You should call the base "Famly Readiness Center".  I know for spouses they offer a certifying class, not sure about civilians.
