I am planning on moving to Italy, I am getting my citizenship through my grandparents. I am fluent in English and Spanish, but no Italian whatsoever tho I can learn it pretty quick as my first language is Spanish. How are Italians towards foreigners? what about the job market? I am knowledable in computers like SQL, C# , some networking...recent college graduate from USA etc....How are the opportunities over there? (jobs)

  1. There are lots of opportunities in Italy if you know about programming and talk english, at least in the North of Italy and near Milan. Being a forneigner, you will be able to attend Italian lessons for free in almost every city in Italy. I am a foreigner in Italy and I feel great here, the Italians are friendly and warm.

  2. Start taking Italian now.  I found knowing Spanish a disadvantage when I came here and the first thing my tutor said was forget everything you know about Spanish.  Why don't you get qualified to teach (ESL) English as a Second Language before you come? Those classes are in English and would give you a way to make extra cash when you get here?

You will have to read/write in Italian even if you work for an American company over here.  We rent out part of my husband's estate for weddings in the summer & fall so my 16 year old niece is coming next summer to work on the condition that she learns enough Italian.  Even working with primarily American customers, there are to many details with Italian businesses to leave it to chance.

  3. GOOD LUCK!

Just because you speak Spanish, does not mean you speak Italian or Portuguese or French or Romanian.. these are all latin languages .... romance languages.. but they are all different from one another.... sure there may be similarities but... don't rely on it!

italians are very friendly, however it depends on the person you are dealing with... the south tends to be friendlier......

you might want to go to a university and leave your C.V withthe job placement office... they may be able to help you!!

  4. Italians welcome law abiding foreigners, as it is now there is some turmoil due to high crime rate involving Romanian nationals.

mastering the language is a must.
