So, basically to make a LONG story short, my mom wants to cut me out of our family now that I'm in college, including money wise. Therefore, I need to find a way to pay for college. Anyone have any tips on how to get scholarships and grants? I'm going to Iowa State University. PLEASE PLEASE help. I'm freaking out that I won't be able to finish my education =[

  1. Try contacting your high school guidance counselor for advice to see what scholarships are available to you based on your record and achievements in high school.

Remember, only apply to the scholarships which you are eligible for in all the criteria. Otherwise, you'll just be wasting your time.

Check the school you want to enter if they have scholarship programs as well.

And what will you be majoring in? There are scholarships awarded to students taking up specified majors, e.g. Art Scholarships, Engineering/Technology scholarships etc. So look into those

  2. You can get student loans.  What are you taking?  You  need to talk with your adviser or someone high up in your faculty.   Try talking to other students.

If you are just taking arts, I would suggest you drop out now as it won't help with jobs later.  If you are taking something like engineering, student loans are OK as you will be making good money when you graduate, and you can afford to pay it back.

  3. Try Sallie Mae's Free Scholarship Search. You answer a few questions about yourself, then the site matches you against a database of more than 2.9 million scholarships worth more than $16 billion and is expanded and updated daily.
