i want to know something about lovebirds.okay...i have 2 lovebirds which i never knew the s*x.no vets in the area

want to know:if i have 2 females,would they show mate?i mean,would they,you know,do "it"?or would they just lay a bunch of eggs?

my two lovebirds already had 8 eggs once.none of the eggs are hatching even after a month and a half but i still left the eggs there in the box to make sure.now they are mating again.will the another clutch be infertile again?should i remove the other eggs by now?

  1. you mean like would 1 female mount the other?

it's possible.. such and similar homosexual behavior isn't rare in the animal kingdom.. though it does seems a little counter-productive

but no none of the eggs would hatch..

when you say you're keeping them in a box? is that an incubator or just some shoebox in the corner?

they have to stay a pretty constant 96 degrees (i believe) in order to hatch if fertile..

you'll also get much more relevent and accurate answers asking this in the Pets>Birds section than in general biology

  2. You recieved a pretty good answer from the other person who answered this question.

I just wanted to add that you need to be SURE your birds are getting calcium in their diet, if they are laying eggs.  They are not wild, and cannot forrage for themselves.  They are completely dependent on you to provide for all of their needs.

Be sure to give them a cuddle bone, oyster grit, or other sources of calcium.  Otherwise the female (s) will be robbing their bones for the calcium to lay the eggs.
