Getting dressed up to go to the Olive Garden..?

Sooo, I noticed at my old college that groups of girls would occasionally get together to have like an "Olive Garden Night!" and they would get dressed up. Like...the olive garden was fancy? Doesn't this seem a little....country bumpkin? Or just being young and thinking that the Olive Garden is like..top of the line? Just curious....

  1. I love your question! It does seem a little "country bumpkin." I remember seeing a young lady on Jerry Springer once. (I swear it was probably the only time I ever saw the show, but I have never forgotten it. Honestly, I was flipping channels, any way just believe me I never watch the show.)

The young lady was protesting that she deserved the finer things in life. (Bad hair, tacky clothes and too much makeup... you get the picture.) She declared that she expected a man to take her somewhere special like the Olive Garden!  The audience couldn't stop laughing and she sat there looking confused.

The Olive Garden is where you go when you want to throw your money away. They have all you can eat salad which is full of ice burg lettuce with no taste or nutritional value. The pasta is from a box with canned sauces.

You'd be better off buying groceries and learning to cook rather than eat at Olive Garden.

Every now and then I decide to "try it again." It seems like a popular place from all the money they spend on advertising. Every single time I am disappointed.

Seek out an independent restaurant where they make homemade pasta and fresh sauces. That is worth the money!

  2. The Olive Garden for me is like McDonald's with wine. It's not high end dining, by any means.

  3. I think its great that they get dressed up to go ANYWHERE. Hardly anyone dresses up anymore. Let them have thier fun even if it is to The Olive Garden.

  4. wear nothing!!!!!!!

  5. I dont think I would dress up for Olive Garden? It is a nice place and wearing nice items would be great but to get all fancy for it? Hey everyone is different so why not?

  6. Yea it is definitely country.... LMAO!!!! I remember i was in a very country place once and a guy hit on me...he was trying to impress me with how much money he had by saying we would go out to eat at "Olive Garden" and "Red Lobsters" every night...LMAO!!! I still laugh every time I drive pass one of those restaurants.

  7. They want to feel grown up. I used to notice that a lot of college age girls were trying on the romantic s*x-in-the-City-life-after-college-as-gr... suit during those years. I mean, they spend most of their daily lives in PJ bottoms sitting in bio lab.

  8. They must have other things in mind than Olive Garden.  It's a chain, not a fine dining establishment.  They food is good, but that's it.

  9. Doesn't matter how you dress. They might just enjoy dressing up. Last time i went to olive garden was about  4 years ago, and i didn't dress up. Actually i wasn't planning on going anywhere, but we were on our way to Best Buy and decided we needed to eat something before our Halo Tournament. The breadsticks were good, so was my pepsi, I don't remember anything else I had. Probably some pasta. However, I do remember I was wearing a hoodie and jeans, and i fit in perfectly with the rest of the clientelle.

  10. LOL Olive garden is for the relaxed at heart.. But i definitely wouldn't go there with painted pants and a tacky shirt... But as you grow older you will catch yourself dressing up to just go to the store.... I think they are trying to learn there way in the higher society.. The olive garden is a great place to work on your dressing skills and manners so when you do finally get to go to that high end restaurant then you will be more like to fit in.

  11. I think that it is cool.  Sometimes, it is nice to dress up with all of your friends...it sometimes makes the event much more special!

It's not that Olive Garden is top of the line for most people, but as a broke college student, Olive Garden is top of the line for their economic status.

  12. Depends on where they used to live, around here Olive Garden is the nicest place to eat, next to Red Lobster. You have to drive over 3 hours to get to a "fancy" restaurant.

Then again, it could just be there way of having a fun night, with out partying.

I wouldn't go there in sweatpants, a t-shirt, and flip flops. But I wouldn't where a gown and heels there either.

  13. Why would you, it's a fast food joint. Do you dress up to go to McDonald's??? I don't eat fast food, I frequent real restaurants, then again, I'm a great cook, I love cooking.

  14. In my opinion, Olive Garden isn't totally fancy, but it sure is fun to dress up to go eat out with friends.  Especially if they go occasionally, they must enjoy it.

  15. I definetly don't think of Olive Garden as fancy. I would guess it the just being young and believing that Olive Garden is nice.

Because yeah...it's not, and most of the food there is gross.
