  1. Yes, because the key has a special security chip in it for anti-theft. It is that way for most newer cars. The Toyota dealership can probably help you out quicker.

  2. Just get keys from your dealership.

  3. Yeah the Toyota dealer could help you out quicker. Don't ever go to Lowe's. They cut me a key to my truck that the blade wasn't as long as my key that I brought in so they cut it and everything and didn't think anything about it until I paid for it and went out to my truck and started it up and noticed going home that when I went over a bump in the road the new key I just got almost came out of the Ignition switch. It was just barely hanging in the switch. I talked to a locksmith friend of ours and he said never go there, The Mazda blanks they have are real cheap and inferior and thinner than the blanks that the locksmiths and dealers have, your lucky that blank didn't break your lock!!

    Good Luck

  4. I would try toyota dealership or a lock smith or another hardware store with it being a 99 i wouldn't think it would have a transponder chip in it, chance's are, Lowe's just doesn't carry the blank.I would try the others places mentioned above.with the axcess(sp) brand key system which lowes and home depot use, anyone could cut a key and you really dont have to have any skill or experience doing it.Other places with the older key system you acually have to compair keys and know what to look for.GL
