Getting dvd's from the tiny video tapes?

Question

I have a video camera that takes the small tiny vcr type tapes. Is it possible to get them onto a DVD? I would rather take them somewhere to do as I am not very computer savvy...
AND.. is it worth it to just go buy a video camera that TAKES The dvd's instead of a tape? If I do, can those tapes just be put in my home dvd player to watch??????? THANKS!
