What is the most effectient way of getting yourself established as a singer ( performer ) and private vocal instructor? I sing classical music... well all types but mostly classical. I have business cards that I leave places and I really need money, I get a few gigs every now and then and I have three students. I just graduated with a degree in vocal music. I can't seem to find any compeitions or auditions in my area... but how can i get more students? And more gigs? I've advertised on craigslist which doesn't do much, most people don't want to pay the money for a lesson.

  1. My advice is to align yourself with the local schools, especially middle and high schools.  Parents are much more willing to pay to send their kids to private lessons if you are recommended through a school choir teacher and you'll only get students who are serious about their voices and singing.  Go to local plays, choir concerts, etc. and talk yourself up.  Good luck!
