lately I always get frustrated when I play guitar, I just want to throw it in a corner, but then I always come back to it. I always mess up by hitting the wrong string when I'm using the pick, or I still can't get a chord after practicing it for months... it gets me so frustrated. is it normal? I've been playing for a little over half a year now and I feel like I should be better by now.

  1. Yes, I get mad usually if I can't learn a song easily. Just slow down on whatever you are trying to do.

  2. YEAH IT'S NORMAL.

i play the violin, six years now.

    i'm not good.

i don't have the talent, i've accepted it.

but with constant practice, i can get along.

but i hate hearing my horrible sounds when i practice.

i get so mad, i feel like exploding.

but at the end of the day, i can't give it up.

so i just go through the whole ordeal again.

    it's normal dude.

  3. Yup it's totally normal, maybe like your playing a song and you want to play with it without getting the wrong notes so. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.

  4. yeah its normal to get frustrated with stuff like that i get really frustrated over stuff  like that too

  5. Yes, EVERYBODY gets frustrated when learning their instrument, especially at the beginning. But keep the "this is supposed to be fun" approach whenever you pick up your guitar. I know it's a hard thing to do, but it's not impossible. Take a breather for five minutes then go back to whatever you're trying to master. It helps.

Try the skip string exercise to get your picking hand to be better, which has greatly helped me thanks to my teacher:

-Pick down the 6th string then pick up the 4th string

-Pick down the 5th string then pick up the 3rd string

-Pick down the 4th string then pick up the 2nd string

-Pick down the 3rd string then pick up the 1st string

Repeat going backwards from the 1st string, picking up.

Take this slowly at first, because you will mess up. If you have a metronome, use that to keep the beat (one click=one pick of a string).

For chords, make sure you're starting with the basics and not just jumping in to bar chords since those are considerably harder to master than the basics. As with the string skip exercise, take switching from one chord to another slowly. Eventually your fingers will know where to go on their own.

Lastly, if you can afford it, take private one-on-one lessons. In fact, I HIGHLY recommend it.

  6. Yes, very normal, it happens between the beginning and the first year.

  7. Of course, you would never THINK of HIRING A TEACHER... would you?... You are an excellent example of why I try to get people to HIRE A TEACHER to get them started... you have already developed enough BAD HABITS that you will probably give up playing instead of HIRING A TEACHER and LEARNING THE BASICS from someone who can help you over the mistakes you are making
