So anyone that has gone to bmt, I have a few questions. How "in shape" should I be for it? I saw the requirements but how hard is the daily routine? Lastly, how long should I be able to jog without stopping.

  1. Can you get off the couch without assistance? Can you walk without a cane? Come on, man! They don't call it the air farce for nothing.

  2. Assume you got two months before you have to report for duty.

Start the first week jogging six minutes three times a week. Do not go for speed,  just go for a constant six minutes of going faster than a walk.  Measure the distance.

After the first week,  kick it up two minutes each week.  Keep measuring the distance.

    8 minutes the second week.

    10 minutes the third week.

    12 minutes the fourth week.

    14 minutes the fifth week.

16 minutes the sixth week and try to go faster.

18 minutes the seventh week and try to go faster.

20 minutes the eighth week and try to go faster.

Then go to a quarter mile track and run 1.5 miles.  Time yourself for 90 second (1.5 minutes) per lap.  You should be able to do the 1.5 miles in 9 minutes.  If you can do that,  you will have no problems at Air Force basic.

This is how they did it years ago for me at Squadron Officer's School and after 2 months I could consistently do 9 minute miles and run 3.2 miles (5 K) in less than 30 minutes and I was not the most fit of people to start.

  3. The air force is the easiest of the four branches.  I know......I was in the AF.  You won't have to run more than a couple of miles and do some sit ups and push ups.  its really more of a walk in the park than a workout.  I'm not trying to put down the AF at all.  I'm just saying that the physical side is extremely easy.
