How does someone get into a division III Track/Cross Country program in college? I know that Division III Schools do not give out scholarships, so if one gets into a college with Division III athletics, do they just try out?

  1. with most D3 you can just walk on and practice with the team but you have to qualify for an event with the other runners from your school to go to an event they usually take 4-5 people for each event (alternates and a back up incase something happens to an alternate in another event) so if you're any good it should be fairly easy. I would suggest joining your local RAW (runners and walkers) club before going to try out though to you have some experience you CANNOT just walk onto the team and be the best (especially for cross counrty).

  2. depends on the coach, most schools will let you just walk on the team....whether you are good enough to travel to meets is another thing,

  3. I went to a D3 school and just showed up at practice. I was on the team for two years. Running indoor and outdoor track was really hard on my body, but it was fun and kept me in awesome shape.
