Question:

Getting kicked out of apartment on purpose...?

I've been in an apartment for 3 years and been a great tenant. The mgmt company changed and the new people are jerks. My lease ends July 31, 2008. I turned in my 30-day notice on July 11, 2008. I know this was late but it's a huge complex and there are plenty of empty apartments. I thought they would be reasonable and allow me to leave. They won't. So now, I have to stay until the end of August AND pay a $100 premium since I am living there month-to-month even though I don't want to be there in the first place.

I've been trying to think of ways to be such a nuisance that the mgr will just give up and let me leave like I want on July 31st. I don't care about needing them for a reference. If I can't be kicked out, I want to try and be the WORST neighbor ever, knowing the mgmt company will be blamed for not doing anything about it thereby causing other tenants to not want to renew their leases when the time comes.

Need suggestions on being a menace. The more devious the better.

  1. Side note they may be able to hold you to another month rent, but unless the 100 premium is listed in your current lease they can not hold you to that

  2. The apartments that I lived in were in a small town. My roommate and I got two warnings in two weeks. The management said people complained about us having too much traffic in and out late at night. We were just young at the time partying, but its my guess that people thought that there were drugs. So if you can make it seem like there are drugs around people will want you out quick! Open and shut the door often late at night or early in the mornings, have over loud noisy friends.

  3. Put dish soap in th pool.

Play loud music day and night.

    Litter.

Park in the managers space sideways.

Hang around the office and be annoying.

Break stuff so the have to fix it.

    You get the idea,right?

  4. Pitiful, you choose to punish the other tenants because you are unable to negotiate your way out of a valid contract. How sad! And moronic, your lease was up at the end of the month! All you had to do was move!

  5. Very loud obnoxious music and noises.  Have many people come into your apartment and make noise.  Ruin the whole complex by throwing food or anything like that around.  But if I were you, I would look into a lawyer and see if you can sue them for forcing you to stay.

  6. Keep in mind that your FUTURE landlord will be calling these people to see what kind of a tenant you are.

Let's see ... became loud and obnoxious the last month of his lease, had to call the cops for the parties, his buddies did $$$$ in damages to the apartment for the last beer party,  and we are suing him for the damages to the pool that his stupid trick with the dish soap caused.

And some ofthose suggestions would be called "malicious mischief", vandalism, and disturbing the peace byt the cops.

Face it: you didn't know what your lease said, you turned in a late notice of non-renewal, and you are blaming the management? Looks like you need to grow up and learn to take care of yourself.

  7. If your signed lease ends on  July 31, there is no need to stay until August.   Just leave.  However, without law suit, you will probably not get your security deposit back.

  8. Have parties, keep calling the manager to fix things in your house.
