  1. I think you should worry about head injuries more than neck injuries, you aren't wrestling, and a knockout is a brain bruising affair at worst.

If there are a lot of knockouts in sparring I would go with a better helmet, so people can hit as hard as they want, the blow will register in the tac helmet, you will be jarred but it is less likely you will be knocked out.   the class may think of going to a 16 ounce glove as well, again you can strike the opponent hard, but the likelihood of really hurting someone drop a bit.

I say this because if you get injured, you can't fight.  I went through a very rough course in the military (IDF), lots of broken noses and ribs, and that was with gear, but the bottom line is if the person is knocked out, they will lose out on the rest of the day's teachings.

  2. Keep your guard up always... if your tired and not in a tournament, take a qick breather... it's not worth getting hurt over.

when you get knocked out in the process you start off tense then relaxed worst thing that can happen is concushion, only neck injury could be whip lash but you probably have head gear and are sparrowing on sports carpet so your neck / head would be fine...tell the person before fighting him to use some self-control lol...you are learning still...

  3. getting knocked out in tae kwon do is not much of a factor.

what matters is once you are knocked out.

    1. are there felons in the area that want to stomp on your head? thats dangerous.

    2. are you practicing in a buddies bedroom with a dresser corner nearby so you can hit your head on it when you fall unconscious?

    3. are you at a college dorm? (they WILL mess with you while your out)

if your not fighting a professional athlete

if the guy is not twice your size

if you are at least 12 or so years old

then you will be just fine in almost every circumstance.
