Getting license plate in california - fees

i recently moved from florida to los angeles. please let me know how long can i drive in california with my florida license plate...is it a offense........

how much does it cost to get the license plate registered in california.......

20 days, according to the DMV in california (but trust me, they never check; I had my car for nearly 3 months before registering it with CA)
