Getting listed in DMOZ?

I want to get my site, http://www.lovelygreenhouses.com listed in DMOZ. I have heard it is EXTREMELY difficult and takes a LONG time. I would hate to wait for months only to get rejected. Does anyone have any tips on how to successfully get listed?

  1. yes, it is hard to get in depending on your category.

follow the rules for submission and do not over submit. Wait 6 months or so to re-submit in case you're not in.

Also visit SEO forums where a lot of DMOZ editors hangout and some may give you input on expected inclusion time.

I also would not hold my breath on DMOZ....do other relevant link building....getting in DMOZ will not shoot up in the rankings.

You can learn more about SEO from my site www.montegroup.com where you'll find links to my blog.

  2. It's something that is out of your control.  It's a catch-22 because if you over-submit, they will ignore your site forever, but you never know when you should re-submit.  If you are lucky enough to experience a noticeable boost in traffic (a big, big boost) they might take note of it themselves without any submissions.  Hope this helps.

  3. Resubmit your DMOZ listing every 3 months. What is the worst that can happen?

There are not too many editors left working with DMOZ ever since the DMOZ server went down. It is still definitely worth the time and effort if you get one.

They are still accepting and approving listings you just need to win the DMOZ lottery.

  4. Why would you want to publish your domain name on DMOZ, since your website is registered in Pakistan?  You would be better off bypassing DMOZ publication and instead, submitting your domain name directly to Google, Yahoo or MSN via their freebie "submit a url" option.

    Good luck!
