Question:

Getting lunch for your boss

by  |  earlier

My boss asks our admin to run out and get him lunch because he's too busy to do it himself. We're in a bit of a debate here whether that is offensive or not. What do you guys think?

I should add that he gives her money to pay for it and sometimes also gives her money to buy something for herself as well.

  1. As long as the admin doesn't complain, I don't think there is a problem. The boss asks, not orders, and sometimes gives her money to get something for herself. I'm guessing she would be getting or bringing in her lunch herself anyway so no I don't think it is rude.

  2. Well, @ least she gets compensated for it.

  3. id say no, my mom uses her assistant, for everything that she doeesnt have time for in the work day. including paperwork, answering phones, taking messages, the daily job of a receptionist, plus anything needed by my mom who doesnt have time to do herself, as she is a very busy career type women...

  4. That sounds like someone in our office.  He works crazy hours but he's not married so he can.  He doesn't have kids either. I think it's ok. I would be annoyed by it if it happened a lot because I usually bring my lunch and I don't like driving much, especially with high gas prices. I usually don't take a lunch. Once in a while or if we are really busy, something is going on then it's fine but on a run of the mill day then maybe not so much. Everyday would be a problem for me. Once a week or even a couple of times a week would be ok.

  5. If he has a lot of responsibilities and a packed day, then it's OK.  If he's sitting back playing games on his computer during this time, then something needs to be said.  In some offices this errand is the responsibility of the Administrative Assistant.  The person in our office with the title does many errands and gets paid mileage as soon as she starts her car.  If he's a busy man, I think it helps make his day go smoother to have someone do this.

  6. yeah you should because that is rude of him and you should tell him that!
