My fiance & I have a wedding date set for next August. It's my dream wedding and I am soo thankful for it. I've always wanted a big wedding and thats what I am getting :)

Anyway, we are both the spontaneous type and have been talking lately that we want to go and secretly get married. Not like Vegas or anything but just at City Hall. Just for the h**l of it. And we'd tell a few close friends and family but the thrill would be fun. And then when August rolls around it would almost be like renewing vows.

My question is, if we get married now and I DONT take his last name, Can I change my last name to his later on down the road?

  1. Yes you can. You just have to show your marriage certificate. I did the same too. Just like you. I waited almost 18 months before I changed my name!

  2. don't take his name its a hassle when you get divorce

  3.     At no point in time do you legally take his last name, so you can change it whenever you feel like it.  When a woman gets divorced she has to pay an outrageous sum to get her name back, but at no point in time do you ever pay to have it changed to his, or fill out any forms.  You just start using it.  So whose to say when that has to happen.

  4. i do not think wives should take the last name of husbands, why..can a woman not have her identity. I married to a man of some other religion, noe their language is different their relatives and all people have different customs, i still am a child of my own father, i love my hubby but i did not change my last name at all, no problem arised due to it.
