We are getting married, having a small wedding with friends and the little bit of family we have. Nothing big. Well, I don't know where to begin. I know there's so much that needs to be done, but where do I start. I'm trying to focus on one thing, like getting the place for where we are to wed and the reception. After that I want to focus on something else, what do you suggest?

  1. get married in your church..if you don't have one try a nice backyard wedding and reception. That will save you time and money. I'm getting married and my reception is the difficult part for me because it's more guests that i prepared for. So have your list and plan for enough food even if it means taking out the grill..lol  that's where we're leaning toward now trying to feed a 100. First, you should have your minister and dress make sure you have everything you need. Next, try to find you some sponsors or friends to help out if your budget is tight..i know ours is. As far as the tux, I've come to learn you can rent one for under 100 dollars. Go to stores like wal-mart and similar for decorations...well i hope i've helped some and hope you HAVE A WONDERFUL WEDDING AND MARRIAGE AND MANY MANY AWESOME YEARS AHEAD OF YOU!

  2. Google do it yourself wedding.  There should be plenty of information.

  3. I suggest you go to the Knot, and follow their checklist.

    http://theknot.com/

Check out their "planning tools" on the left side of the page.

You may not want or need everything mentioned at the Knot, but it is a good place to start.

  4. Yes, start with a place for a wedding and a reception. Then contact a caterer, a photographer and a florist. Find a dress and order a cake. Pick up a copy of a bridal magazine. They are full of hints and tips.

  5. Definitely check out www.theknot.com. They have the BEST check list and timetable. Just put in your wedding date and it will give you month by month details as to what to do. I use The Knot throughout my wedding planning.

  6. Congrats on getting married!  I know the proccess can seem a little daunting, and while your theory of sticking to one thing sounds good, you might want to multi-task just a little bit.  In other words, don't block a good idea out just because it's not what you're working on right now.  But here's some of my ideas that you can think about:

Where will you have your wedding ceremony?  Where will the reception be?  What's your dress?  What are your bridesmaid's dresses?  What cakes do you want?  What colors do you want for your wedding?  Who's going to do your hair/nails?  What music will you play at your reception?  Who will take pictures?  Who will be in charge of the music?  Who's the preacher who will marry you?  What book do you want for people to sign?  Are you going to get a picture in the newspaper?  What food/drink will be served at your reception?  What will your invitations look like?  What decorations will you use?

Just some stuff to think about!  Good luck, and hope you have a beautiful wedding!  Hope this helps!

  7. After you pick the place, you should work on invitations. Then, I'd focus on decorations and dresses/tuxedos if you're going that route. Good luck!

  8. Okay, start out by composing your guest list because you will need to refer to it for many things! On your guest list, put down all their contact information, who's related, who's bringing their children with them, etc. Now using the number of guests on your guest list (and keep in mind you may have a few more or a few less) figure out venues that would be comfortable (and romantic!) for your wedding. After you've established the venue, everything starts to fall into place I swear. Send out formal invitations with the venue, date, time, dress and whatever other information you feel is necessary. Next, it's time to start planning the reception. Start calling caterers, see who has experience with weddings (don't be afraid to barrage them with questions!), make sure your guests don't have any food allergies, look for someone who can make you the cake of your dream.

Hopefully you already have a budget before you start doing all these things. Make sure you write down the predicted costs of catering, reception location, dress, cake, floral and misc. costs. You can email me if you need more help. I've got a lot of wedding planning experience, and I'd be glad to help. sbitneva30@hotmail.com

  10. I planned our wedding in two months and I have to say it was very smooth.  I would recommend it to anyone having a small wedding.  Here's the order in which I would rate your to do list:

    1. Pick a date

    2. Select a wedding location (make sure it's available)

    3. Select a reception location if different than wedding

        (again, make sure it's available)

    4. Make out guest list

    5. Order invitations (can take a few weeks) & get them out

        as soon as they're ready

    6. Select menu for reception

    7. Pick out a dress/shoes & get him fitted for a tux

    8. Get decorations or put someone in charge of

        decorations (wedding and/or reception)

    9. Get wedding license

    10. Final dress fitting

    Good luck!
