Im a UK resident....my finance is an American resident...we will both be divorcee's if that makes any difference...we want to marry in the States and both of us come back to the UK to live. Is there any special papers we would need or can we do it all on our passports?

  1. Your fiancee will need to apply for a fiancee/spouse visa to come and live here which they can apply for after you are married. It costs £500 and you will need to provide evidence of your relationship and that you (as resident of the UK) can support the both of you for two years without any recourse to public funds. As your fiancee isn't a resident of the UK they have no automatic rights to live here - being a spouse of a resident doesn't entitle them to citizenship. Look into the process carefully as there is no guarantee of your fiancee being granted a visa and the £500 is non-refundable.

  2. You can do it with a visitor visa and passport. I would bring the divorce papers just in case. Some states require a blood test and you have to wait for the results. Check the particular state you plan on getting married in

  3. To get a marriage license in most US states you will both need to show your divorce certificates. The USC partner should also have a birth certificate. You don't need your birth certificate as your passport should be enough though I took mine anyway.

To go back to the UK to live you need to get the USC spouse a visa. This costs 500 pounds and you can apply through the British Embassy in Washington DC or the consulate nearest where you both plan to marry. It can be done in a week but may take longer.

Once you and your new spouse arrive in the UK there are morepapers to be filed to give your spouse leave to remain.

  4. How long has you American partner lived in the U K if it's over a year they can file there It well cut off a year in your waiting time  Took me two months from start to finish If they have to do it state side at least a year File your I130 and get all your paper work divorce papers etc Read every thing a doz times It's government B/S don't lie they can find out everything about you They well have to sponsor you it's easy you need to show a combined income for two of about $18,000 U S per year Don't need help just do it yourself and stay calm Remember they hear thousand of stories and everyone wants it now Don't believe anything anyone tells you it's easy and we don't care were you were born nor what religion you are
