Im currently at a small dance studio with only 12 students in total.

We have one young girl..

and the rest are older. what can my dance teacher do to keep interest in the little ones? it seems like they are all leaving to other studios or taking interest in sports or karate.

what can i do myself to advertise? i am 17..and im sure she does not mind. i made a myspace and requested girls in my area. they all read the message i sent..and none have replied. except one. thats one out of say..100 i requested?

flyers would be a good idea.

what about online sites?

what other tips or techniques do you have for my studio to get and KEEP girls?

i would love for us to grow and develop eventually be able to compete.

thank you =]

  1. you should suggest

that you guyys do like a parde like we do a hallween parde [[we win in our area every you sorry]]

anyways or like a fair or idk if you guys have Santa Cali Gon

but go there and have the little girl have a solo and little girls will be begging there mothers to join since it seems fun

Good luck and i know you guys are gonna make it bigg! :]] ♥

  2. It is so nice of you to try to expand your studio. Here are some ideas:

~If you babysit, recommend it to the kids and their parents. Suggest they enroll the kids at your studio or bring them to try a class

~Hold clinics and camps. The summer is a great time to hold clinics because parents are happy to send their kid somewhere safe for a day camp. You just need a teacher and a few assistants to teach simple choreography and do snacks and crafts. It is fun to have dolls and dress up for the girls to do. Also, have a show off so the parents can see how great your studio is

~Perform in public. Try performing at local festivals, talent shows, and school activities. These are great ways to get your studio in the public eye. Try teaming with a theater so that you can perform outside their venue prior to shows. You can also do pep rallie performances at schools or do the talent shows because there are normally many parents and kids in attendance.

~Try advertising. Create a website, get listed in local phone books and directories, post fliers in local Starbucks and businesses, put an ad in the paper, team up with locals to spread the word (such as having a mutual agreement with a local kids clothing shop to promote eachother)

I hope these have helped. Make sure the teachers are well trained, the music/costumes/dance moves are appropriate, the studio is safe/clean/professional, and that your older students and teachers set an example by working hard, being positive, and encouraging younger girls.

Again, I hope I have helped. Good luck!

PS Even if you don't have enough girls to compete as a team, competing solos could really benefit your studio. If the solos are good, other parents, judges, and choreographers will be interested in your studio. It is also a great way for you personally to grow as a dancer and gain experience.
