I need a washing machine motor for a project i'm doing, would I have to pay for the motor if I went to a junk yard and ripped one out of an old washing machine? If they do charge, how much would the motor be?

  1. If you only need any AC motor in your project, why not using the motor from a fan. It is cheap. A new 16 inches fan cost $10 in store.

Or if you are lucky, search you neighbourhood to see any scarp airconditioner throw out on the street. It contains more  powerful fan motor.

  2. Try the city dump or the recycle yard.  Also goodwill stores get appliances that they can't sell. Just remember that single phase motors have to have some starting scheme so salvage the whole electrical wire loom and any capacitor or relay as these are often required for starting.

  3. every junk yard is different. i havent even seen a junk yard with a washing machine in some time. also getting the motor off of the washing machines transmition can be pretty difficult. get one off of a dryer(easy access). recycle places would be a good place to get one. buy it off the guy trying to sell it for scrap. motors are not worth a whole lot because of the insulation on the windings. i would start bidding at $15
