Getting my cat shaved/groom questions?

so i have a mainecoon cat and i want to get him shaved so he kind of looks like a lion? well how much does something like that cost? and does shaving a cat affect it? hes an inside cat and never goes outside so im not worried about winter and his fur and stuff

Cats should never get shaved, they are extremely temperature sensitive and their fur keeps them warm. Even at room temperature they'd be cold without fur. The shaving could irritate his skin and cause him to pick and scratch, so please don't shave your cat!!

You can call your local groomers to get a price but personally I would never shave a cat.

Call around to some grooming facilities and see what they would charge for that cut. It won't affect the cat in any way. It might add up tho if you want this done all of the time.

I once had a long haired cat and had him buzzed down every summer so he wouldn't be so hot. He didn't mind it either.

We do a lion cut at our clinic. If the kitty dosen't need to be sedated, its about $95, with sedation and exam (req for sedation) it's about $150. The cut lasts for a few months. I shave my two persians. The mainecoon doesn't mat so he stays long haired. Hope this helps.

I shave my Persian on her back to her underside "tummy" and her neck ruff leaving the tail and legs as they are every July and then once again only on the underside in August when it is extremely hot, like in the 80's to 100's  we have only a swamp cooler and she likes to be shaved.

I hold her loose skin up on the neck so it wont pull and I shave with the fur not agenst it and I have the shaver adjusted to the long tooth mark on the teeth or blades so it wont cut the skin, make sure you dont shave the nipple area. Also use little brush like strokes if the fur is matted on the skin.
