Hi

Getting new puppy today! She is an average to large breed (husky) I have always used a special large puppy breed food for my other 2 huskies who did fantastically on it. My vet always raves about their coat, eyes and general good health. The specialist food is supposed to boost the puppies immune system and help in the development of large puppy bones etc. Should I very slowly change the breeder recommended food. Or just leave her on the one she is getting. I am not always sure about these super duper expensive foods but my last breeder has always used it and has had many champions at home and abroad. I am not meaning having a "champion" is my aim. Just give the best start to my pup.

  1. If you had such success with your usual food with your previous two pups, then yes, I would slowly switch her over. I too feed a very high-quality food, and I slowly switched both of my dogs over the my preferred brand ASAP when I first brought them home as pups, since neither of their breeders' brands where up to my quality standards.

Congrats on the new pup! You must be so excited (and a little nervous!). Good luck with everything!

  2. if you feel your new puppy will benefit from the food your feeding your others then try it, introduce it slowly. also look at the package of the food its already on and see what types of nutrition it is actually benefittin from and if your not happy think about changing the diet.

  3. Change over slowly. Any sudden major change in diet can cause tummy problems. I must admit I learnt this lesson the hard way and did I have one h**l of a mess to clean up. Good luck with the new family member.
