Getting out of a contract? HELP!!!!!

I'm in a tight situation.

I was a member of Bally Total Fitness then realized I wouldn't be able to afford it because I'm a college student(they advertised a different price from my contract). I never paid because I never went to the gym. Well, the people from Bally's would call me everyday but I never answered. Then the calls eventually stopped. Then I received a letter in the mail from this debt collector telling me that I have to write them a letter stating why I shouldn't pay off this debt or I would have to pay it.

What should I do?

Should I make up a fake injury or say that I don't live near to a Bally's (like the woman who works at Bally's told me I should do if I wanted to get out of the contract)

  1.   If, in fact, the price charged was not as advertised, and you can prove it, see an attorney.  The contract may be void.

    This is not legal advice.

  2. fake injury!!!

  3. I would probably tell them that you don't live near it if that is what the woman suggested.
