Question:

Getting out of a lease in Kentucky?

I signed a lease on Saturday for an apartment. I now, three days later, have had my situation change drastically. I know in some states you have three days after signing a contract to get out of it...is this so with a lease in the state of Kentucky?

  1. I moved from Kentucky to Washington last year, so I'm not sure who I could call to help you. Here is a list of apartments in Kentucky that you can call. http://www.findanapartmentonline.com/Ken... I'm sure someone can help you.

  2. What you are thinking of is a "3 day right of rescission" which applies to anything you bought without seeing it.  Like buying a magazine subscription from a door-to-door salesman or a health-club membership. Not real estate. No 3 days for leases.

I'm a landlord.  If you come to me and explain your situation, i might release you. If you offer me some money, it's even better.

If you move out in the middle of the night, i have to go to court so i can take possession of my rental.  That does not make me happy.. /

  3. There are no three day rescission rights for such contracts.  Many folks seem to think that the cancellation rights apply to ANYTHING one signs.  Not at all true.  Cancellation rights only apply to consumer credit purchases.

Your lease was valid, binding, and not cancellable the moment you signed your name on the dotted line.
