Question:

Getting over coaster fears?

Here's the deal. I know the coaster is safe. I don't worry about getting hurt or anything like that. I just can't decide if I like the buterflies you get on the drops. I like having them for a moment, but I've kept myself from going on any bigger coasters because I don't know if I could handle that feeling for much more than a second. Is there a way to lessen that? I've heard holding your breath and clenching your tummy helps a bit.

Also: Any tips for forcing yourself to keep your head back on loops? I've only ridden looping coasters twice, and I can't seem to stop myself from trying to lift my head up, which obviously hurts, and doesn't help my motion sickness at all.

  1. I agree don't hold your breath it makes it worse.  Yell or let out a scream works best.

  2. I hate the people who say hold your breathe! That doesnt help the problem it hurts it. It alot better to let out a yell or scream and enjoy the ride. When you hold your breathe and tighten your stomach your ADDING to the problem. Its all in your mind. Once you conquer your fear of coaster you will enjoy them all the time. When your body is tense due to fear you will enjoy the ride less. So put up your arms let out a woooooooooooo and there will be no butterflies.

For keeping your head back just think of how bad it will hurt if you heading is doing the bobblehead dance on the coaster. You will instanly realize I dont want a headache all day.

  3. Yes. holding your breath and clenching your tummy does help. just make sure you aren't holding your breath for too long, because you will pass out. It's hard to keep the butterfly feeling out of your stomach because that's just how your stomach reacts to steep drops like that.

And for holding your head back...press your head really hard against the back of your seat.  but make sure your not doing it SO hard that you'll get a headache (trust me..been there...done that).  Some rides are just too loopy and bumpy that you just can't help but bust your head around. For example: Cedar Point's Corkscrew. You can just tell by the name that it is extremely harsh on your head! I litterly came off of that with a migrane. it was terrible. even though i love that ride :]

    So good luck...have fun...and be careful! ♥

  4. Live like you are dying!

  5. you are taking the coaster ride too seriously. they are to make you enjoy not to frighten you.holding breath, clenching your tummy are just things to bring back your confidence. just stay calm and make youself comfortable in the coaster. don't be worried and just enjoy!!!!!
