Question:

Getting people to come to my 18th party?

I hired out a room that holds 200 people but there are only about 100 who I actually want there. If only half turn up then that's 50 people and the room will just seem empty. I know its not worth inviting people who are gunna spoil it but I want everyone to have a good time and a lot of people makes a good atmosphere.

What can I do to firstly make the people I've invited really make an effort to show up and secondly get more people invited without seeming desperate? Would giving people '+ guest's be a good idea?

  1. Well, you said it, not I "You are desperate" period.

One can not expect people to "want to hang with us" if our previous behavior and personality has not been squeaky clean and appropriate.

Secondly, one can never expect people to "behave" in a certain way. Murphy's law says that if something should go wrong it will go wrong when you least want it to. That is true! Been there done that.

Thirdly. I can not for the life of me think you'd want 200 people at your 18th birthday party? Are you a celebrity? Are you overly socially connected? Most 18th birthday parties are only for the "closest of friends". Those will never behave in a way that will embarrass you. When you invite the TOWN, well do I need to spell it out for you.

  2. I think it is a great idea to invite someone with a date, especially for those people who might not show up solo.  It is another way to network, make new friends, and have your friends be comfortable at your party.

Is your party for friends only?  What about your family and relatives?  What are you planning for food and entertainment?  Are you hiring a DJ and will there be dancing?  Are you sending out formal (or semi-formal) invitations with an RSVP so you know EXACTLY how many are attending?  How about spreading the word to 'save the date' for your 18th party?

Good luck and Happy Birthday to you :-)
