Question:

Getting ready for volleyball???

by  |  earlier

I have always loved volleyball, but only played it for 2 weeks in gym class, where he only showed us the three basic moves...bumping, setting, and serving.

I am also not in very good shape. I nearly broke my back when I was 6, and have had scholiosis and knee pain ever since.

Are there any specific drills and excercises you do when you are on a team? I've been practicing bumps, sets and serves with my mom...But what else can I do to strengthen myself before the tryouts?

Thanks!

  1. I have the same query as you do, and I've been reading old volleyball questions. I've decided that I need to work on squats and arm muscle (push-ups). I will also continue working on my core using sit-ups.

I'm also looking into getting a volleyball ($15-20) next time I go to Target and will practice the basic moves.

  2. keep practicing, and get together friends to play with you. it'll help you tons if you actually get out there in a game situation. also, jog and run. running helps with every single sport, and youll see your game improve a ton just by running for a simple 20 - 30 minutes everyday.

id also reccomend looking into a camp in your area for volleyball, so you can get more experience. good luck! (:

  3. really work on your core muscles and your leg muscle which help you on defense and staying low. good luck and just believe in yourself!!

  4. if you've only been playing for two weeks, you probably need a lot of work on your bumps, sets and spikes. Work on that a lot. If you can fit in two strength training activities with your practicing, the most important muscles to work on is your arms (push ups) and core ( different kinds of sit ups, not just one kind! look alternative kinds up on google). If you're looking to do all this in one, I would suggest swimming laps. About a quarter to a half mile a day should be good. I don't know the dimensions of my pool, but it takes me 22 laps to equal a quarter mile.

  5. 1.bump, set, bump, set...

    2.shuffles.

  6. well im not really in shape but just stretch and practice working with your skills and basics...

  7. i love the target reference!!!....but back to your question...you can do many things...keep on doing what your doing with your mom because it helps you practice your fundamentals....secondly, try to get into shape by running, doing pushups, situps etc...you can also get someone who you know that is on the volleyball team and help you to know what is going to be in the tryouts so you are fully prepare.  Remember, always keep your mind open, follow directions, and have a positive attitude towards learning new things.  Good luck!
