Question:

Getting really frustrated with learning guitar?

Although I have been playing guitar and taking lessons for a year, I really can't play anything. I don't practice everyday, and yes, yes I know I should be doing that, but whenever i try to practice I just get so frustrated and annoyed that I can't really play well. I am still slow with chord changes and I don't have an ounce of rhythm in me to play melodies and stuff. :( :( my teacher says I am sometimes too hard on myself, but how cant I be if i can't even play a full song? Seeing other people exceling at it when I can barely play makes me want to give up, but I know that would be terrible because of how much my parents spent on lessons and how long I spent with it. can anyone give me some motivation? or advice?

  1. Do not get discouraged and do not give up. With the right lessons and guide you should be making quick progress. The lessons that you are taking now might be too fast paced. You then can get overwhelmed, confused and pick up bad habits. If you have fun, learn at your own pace and with the proper lessons and guide you will pick up your guitar skills very quickly. Have you ever looked into learning guitar online? You can learn at your own pace and it is a lot of fun and a lot more detailed. Have patience and practice and most of all have fun. You will be amazed on how fast you can learn guitar with the right guide. I recommend you check out http://easilyplayguitar.com for tips on improving your guitar skills in the fastest time possible. Good Luck!

  2. It may not be you. It may be your teacher. See, when you take lessons it's not all on you to practice and be able to play what you were given to see progress, 50% of that progress is on the teacher and how he or she gives you assignments and information. In a year you should be beyond basics, be playing songs (sure not solos but strumming songs and fingerpicking), and be able to read music and things like that. If this is the case, find a new teacher.

Don't give up. That's the FIRST thing to never do. But if you really don't find any enjoyment in playing, don't prolong your suffering any longer.

Also, don't compare yourself to other guitarists because you won't get anywhere doing that. Focus on what YOU have to do to get to where you want to be. Find inspiration in these people you compare yourself with. Change it around.

And practicing for half an hour is better than not playing for a couple days. Get at least SOME practice time in everyday, even if you can only manage 10 minutes. Make those 10 minutes worthwhile: practice those chord changes and set goals for every practice (ie. I'm going to go from a C to a G five times without making a mistake).

  3. you need inspiration. think of a really simple song that you like, get the chords off the internet. Give yourself a deadline of how long before you can play it in full, maybe an hour, maybe a week. Don't over practice and try to get the chord progressions nice and smooth. And most of all you are never gonna learn if you get nothing but frustrated, learning an instrument is suppose to fun. Once you master the song it'll be a good confidence booster to try another song. Let us know how you get on.

  4. it seems to me you might just not want to play, theres not much else i can tell you besides try playin a different kind of music that you really like, i started playing classical and it wasntwhat id thought itd be, then i discovered iron maiden and u can probly figure out the rest
