Question:

Getting rid of Fauxvirus on Vista?

I've been infected with Fauxvirus. Forgive me, but I still don't know a lot about it or how to get rid of it. I found a fix for XP, but not for vista. Does anyone know how to get rid of this thing on Vista? Much appreciated. Thanks!

  1. Switch off system restore [re-enable later if you like] then go to add/remove and remove SpySheriff if you have it.

Delete your cache then install and run ccleaner http://ccleaner.com making sure that you run both the ccleaner and the registry scans and delete all that is found. [this will take a couple of mins to complete]

Now install and run the free version of SUPERantispyware http://superantispyware.com ensuring that you apply any updates and do a full scan. [this will take about an hour to complete]

I'd also make sure that you have a good anti-virus program installed, I use Avast Home Edition http://avast.com which is free and very effective. If you decide to install this and run a full scan this will take a few hours. If you have Norton or McAfee I'd remove . To remove Norton completely you'll need to use the Norton Removal Tool which you can get from here http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsg...

I'd also recommend you install and run spybot search and destroy which you can get from here http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.h... making sure that you update and immunize before running.

You'll have to carry out a few reboots, just do that when asked.

Good luck and email me if I can help more.
